The Sibbeston Family

Dehcho · Fort Simpson · NWT

The Sibbeston name is unique in the world — made once, in one place, when a French priest at a northern fur trade post wrote down what he heard an Orkney man say. It has been carried by one family, from the Dehcho region of the Northwest Territories, ever since.

The family’s most prominent member in public life is Nick G. Sibbeston — residential school survivor, the first Indigenous northerner to earn a law degree, fourth Premier of the Northwest Territories, and Senator of Canada for eighteen years.

His son, Jerald Sibbeston, is the founder of Yamoria Canada Chat Inc., building sovereign AI infrastructure on Canadian soil.

Family history on this site reflects Jerald Sibbeston’s understanding of oral tradition and may contain errors. Corrections welcome: jerald@yamoria.ca
